Academic Support Services
UPA wants all students to succeed and live up to their maximum potential. However, at a school with such academic rigor, this is not always an easy task. UPA provides many opportunities for students to get the additional help that they need. Teachers are always willing to work with students in formal or informal tutoring opportunities.
Office Hours
One of the best ways to find support in a class is by attending teacher office hours. Drop by when you have questions about class content, need to make up some late work, or want help reviewing for a quiz or exam. Attending office hours can give you valuable time to better understand your class content can have a big impact on your academic success.
To make your office hours more meaningful, think about the following points before attending.
Check your syllabus or this link here to find out when and where your teacher holds office hours.
What do you want to accomplish during office hours? Do you need handouts? Do you need to do test corrections? Come with a purpose to best utilize your time.
Prepare questions beforehand. Even if you feel generally lost in the class, your teacher will be better able to help if you offer specifics. An example might be “I understand two parts of this problem or idea, but don’t know how to connect them.” This question not only shows that you attempted the assignment, but it also where you are stuck.
Bring whatever materials are appropriate, including your textbook, handouts, or notes.
